Notification services in .net

I have a vague requirement from a client to implement some sort of notification services in an sql server driven asp.net application.

For example, purchasing order screen should receive some sort of notification on the web page or in a different manner when certain items stock dips below certain level.

Please excuse me for this vague description and I am in the process of getting as much information as possible.

Has any one here designed a similar system? MSMQ, Webservices, sql server triggers are coming to my mind but I am not clear about these approaches.

Thanks for the link. Are there any other approaches to this problem?

Sure there's an infinite number of ways to roll it your own way, which is why Microsoft got around to building a "standard variant" by way of notification services. Notification is improved moreso in SQL Server 2005.
