I am sort of new at PHP and was wondering if somebody has used PHPUnit for unit testing code?

If so, how do you find it? or can you recommend any tool for unit testing PHP code? I am looking for something as similar as possible to JUnit

Sebastion Bergman - the developer behind phpUnit - developed it as a clone of jUnit.  The syntax is as similar as it can be (PHP vs Java and all) and it works effectively the same.  Some of the IDE's - Eclipse, Zend Studio, and Neon - offer varying levels of integration and support.

If you really want a Java-like environment, you can use Phing to use a build.xml file to drive the whole process.  That allows you to plug into some of the Continuous Integration systems out there...

* Disclaimer - Hans Lellelid (project lead of Phing) is a colleague in our local DCPHP Group and he happens to be a good guy.

Apart from PHPUnit, there's also SimpleTest, which is fairly feature-rich as well.
