I am on an academic project to study how to improve the performance of RDP protocol in Terminal Services. We found that the amount of data send is almost same when rdesktop client is run with and without -b option (to send screen updates as bitmaps) for applications where the screen is changing rapidly. Does that mean that for rapid changes, RDP is sending bitmaps, rather than GDI primitives? If so, how can we access these bitmaps, before they are send to the client? Should we write any driver?
Not necessarily. Why don't you sniff the network to find out what is actually being sent?
