data synchronization

Are there any books you know that discuss how to synchronize data between offline location (desktop) and online location (server)? I need to quickly learn what to watch out for, security practices and some how-to techniques.

Two books that come to mind are:

I've seen both on the "remainder" shelf, so you should be able to snag some copies cheap.

SyncML was originally aimed at hand-helds, which can be disconnected most of the time from the DB, and lack a lot of memory, storage and processing power.

The Data Replication Techniques book talks a bit about some algorithms, but tends to talk a lot more about other things you need to look out for, such as security. It was written when replication was a very expensive add-on for databases and not included, as it is now with "fancy new stuff" like SQL Server 2000, or Oracle 9. Note for the humo(u)r/sarcasm impaired: The book is 10 years old, and those products weren't even in beta back then.

I can't answer directly, but here are a couple of things that might turn up some info:

First, CRM systems have been doing sycnh a long time - if you could turn up some implementation guidelines, you'd probably learn a few things about security, conflict resolution, and best practices.  I used to do implementations with SalesLogix and Pivotal, and synch setup was one of the touchiest parts of the implementation.

Second, if you're contemplating doing this in .Net, MS is releasing Synch Services for ADO.Net with .Net 3.5 / VS 2008 -- read more here:
