Desktop Managment Software

Hi,

We are building desktop managment software for inventory management, patch management and remote support etc. However, we do not know how to discriminate physical and virtual CDROM drives under windows. Any suggestions? Thanks.

For the agent code that collect hardware and software on each PC, we use WTL&C++, and we use WMI to collect inventory information, but WMI can not discriminate physical and virtual CDROMS. Thanks.

From what I understand, it's kind of hard because they are designed to be undistinguishable from their physical counter parts. However, most of them only work under SCSI although Daemon Tools is working on an IDE version. This is what I've heard.
