There was a good article on TechCrunch last week on a recent survey of moble app developers - they say half (50%) of iOS developers and even more (64%) Android developers are operating below the “app poverty line” of $500 per app per month.  Here's the article: http://techcrunch.com/2014/07/21/the-majority-of-todays-app-businesses-are-not-sustainable/

How does this differ from the traditional markets?  Go back 15 years and of the 100k shareware programs out there, how many made more than 500 month? 1%? Shrink wrap software (is there a better term for this?) has always been a winner take all game.
