For those of you in the US using Plimus/BlueSnap:
I received an email from them requesting me to fill out a W9 form for "IRS and card scheme requirements". So I understand that need; however, when I used the link they provided, it also asked for the owner's Name, Date of Birth, and Social Security Number.
I'm careful about giving out my SSN as it is, but also including the date of birth provides all the information one would need to decimate your credit. The security of the information is especially concerning given the quality of programming at Plimus/BlueSnap (the emails I receive from them start out with: "Dear MAIN_VENDOR"...
I'm waiting for a reply back from them regarding why they need the date of birth, but just wondered if any of you have received the email and supplied the information.
Incidentally, the website where they collect the information is using SSL; however, I have no idea if the data is encrypted or stored as clear text on their end. The notice was sent in the 3rd week of the month and we're given until the end of the month to provide the information or they may hold our funds...
Why haven't you already switched to Fastspring?
