Are sites like Softpedia truly legit?

I recently launched my site and submitted my two apps to Softpedia.  For one of the apps, their site says it's been downloaded 42 times.  My own stats from my web host, and also from StatCounter, show only 3 downloads.  What gives?  Is Softpedia lying?  Note that they are linking directly to my Setup.exe file, and not hosting it themselves, so their figure of 42 should really be 3 like my own stats.

Here's real screenshots of the stats.  Both started calculating download stats on January 31st.  What's the story?

Either softpedia is lying or your stat software is broken. Is the stat software using your HTTP server access logs, or is it using some javascript snippet? If it's using something other than your access logs then it's susceptible to wrong numbers.

In my case they are hosting software themselves. I have three products but submitted just one and was really surprise when they uploaded the other two by themselves, with a description, screenshots  and everything. The number of downloads is relatively high (higher than from downloads.com for example).

It might be the case I saw before in my logs. Some users use download manager programs that split download on multiple parts and each part maybe counted as separate download.
